By Her Roots
There’s been a lot of buzz lately about the updates at Roots Television. The new full-screen mode turns your monitor into a genealogy media center where you can be both entertained and informed right at your desk. I finally had some time to browse through RootsTube – one of my favorite sections – and stumbled onto Alannah Ryane’s series, By Her Roots. WOW! Alannah gives us an extraordinary look at her search for Peter Martin. The video is beautifully captured and edited, the theme song is still dancing around in my head and her interviews are more like conversations where I’m an invited participant.
So far, there are four webisodes and I’m looking forward to many more. Not only am I intrigued with her story, I am fascinated with her technique. The way she uses the camera to include the viewer in the story is delightful. Her editing is quite professional and the photos, maps and images add even more interest.
I’ve read my share of articles discussing the search for this ancestor or breaking through the wall on that ancestor, but few have been inspirational like these videos. Allanah left me wanting more. I can’t wait for the next webisode to continue the story of the search for Peter Martin.
Take a look for yourself, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I’d heard of it but hadn’t taken the time to review it before this. Alannah has done an excellent job of profiling her story! I’m thinking mini documentaries about our family might be the way to interest the rest of the family in our family history.
